McAllen Real Estate - Residential
McAllenRecent unemployment numbers ranked Hidalgo and Cameron counties as the highest in the state.  However, companies in the McAllen area are joining forces to change not only the unemployment rate, but also the perception the rest of the state has of our area.  Health care, education, and retail are among Hidalgo County's top employment sectors.  Renewable energy programs and customer care centers are also adding to the jobs available for our area residents.  Woods & Poole Economics have estimated that McAllen will add over 80,000 jobs within the next decade.  "With hiring on an upward trend since the 2008 recession started tapering off, McAllen has seen a faster recovery than most other metro areas, even if it is not evident in the unemployment rate," says Jared Janes of the McAllen Monitor.  This is largely because of the rapidly growing population.  For example, "McAllen's unemployment rate in October was one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the previous year despite having 6,000 more jobs." Keith Patridge, the president and CEO of the McAllen Economic Development Corp. believes that companies will start up projects that were delayed by the recession.  He believes that, "If the U.S. economy continues to rebound, Valley manufacturers that supply the maquila industry should see growth once production picks up in the Mexican factories."   Although there still is some uncertainty, "the valley will continue to receive a boost from strong economic fundamentals such as a young work force and its low cost of living."
