Did you know that McAllen has a new Main Public Library? The new library is approximately 3 times the size of the old Main library and is the largest single floor public library in the nation. After 61 years of business the old Main library has closed it's doors and shared it's 250,000-item collection with the new location. "While McAllen’s new library offers a slew of amenities, ranging from a larger computer lab to a coffee shop, the move remains bittersweet for many with fond memories of the Memorial Library, which has been a gathering place and city resource for six decades." (The Monitor) Included in the 123,000 square foot building there are 16 Public Meeting Spaces, 12 Public Study Rooms, Computer Lab equipped with 64 stations, Children's Computer Lab equipped with 10 stations, Teen's Computer Lab equipped with 6 stations, Genealogy Computer Lab with 2 stations, and 355,794 books. With all of the additional ammenties the library has to offer, it is sure to be a big hit with the residents of the Rio Grande Valley.
