"How to Hang Your Outdoor Lights Safely"-McAllen Real Estate

McAllen Real Estate - Residential

christmas_lightsAs we get into the holiday spirit and begin to put up our holiday lights, the emergency rooms begin to receive an increased amount of injuries caused by the improper use of ladders, lights, and electrical outlets.  Hanging your lights can be an easy and fun way to highlight your homes exterior, as long as it is done properly.  Your lights should always be plugged directly into a ground fault circuit interrupter outlet.  These can be purchased from any home supply store for less than $20.  Prior to installing the lights, plug them in and make sure they are all working.  After double checking the lights, you may then use a STURDY ladder to attach the lights with insulated holders.  Do not use nails or tacks, and remember to tuck away all loose chords (you don't want anyone tripping on the chords and falling).  Lastly, for safety precautions remember to turn off the lights when you go to bed or when you are leaving the house!
