McAllen Real Estate - Residential

winterize_your_homeThere are many ways to prepare your home for winter. Here are only a few of them. If you can, put your ceiling fan in reverse to turn clockwise. Since warm air rises, the clockwise rotation of the blades forces the warm air down to where you need it. Caulk around window frames and apply weatherstripping between the sash and window frame to prevent cold air from coming in or warm air going out. Tension seal and magnetic weatherstripping are durable and effective for double-hung windows. For casement and sliding windows, you can apply self-adhesive V-strip weatherstripping to the side of a clean, dry sash or window jamb. Install insulation gaskets onto your electrical outlets to eliminate air leakage there also. Stop cold air from coming into your home through holes where pipes, vents or electrical conduits run through the walls, ceiling and floors. Also check under sinks in the kitchen and bathroom and basement for gaps around pipes. Fill in all these holes with an insulating foam sealant. You can use caulk to seal the small gaps. These tips will not only keep your home warmer during winter but also save you money on your energy bills.
