As a home owner there are some items that should be routinely checked around your home every month. Some safety items are to make sure your fire extinguishers are fully charged, test and clean smoke detectors to make sure they are working, and test breakers on Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters. Some exterior items to check are the tracks of your windows to remove any dirt and debris and monitor the grade around your home to ensure any settling isn't affecting the foundation grade. Some other items to check in the interior of your home is to seal grout on ceramic tile flooring within 30 days of occupying your home and after that according to the sealant manufacturer's recommendations. Also inspect heating and air filters when the system is in use and replace as necessary. You also need to vacuum heat registers and cold air returns. Two final items to check every month are to test the ground fault circuit breaker and to pour water down any unused drains. By following these home maintenance tips, your home should continue to be beautiful and valuable for many years.
