When organizing your garage, as always, safety comes first. Always store chemicals in original containers and out of reach of children on a high shelf or locked cabinet. The propane of your gas grills is highly combustible so it should be stored at least 10 feet away from the house. Kids' toys can be a safety hazard so store toys in bins. Ladders can be a hazard just leaning against the wall so lean it against the wall horizontally at floor level or store it on hooks. Gardening tools should be stored vertically on secure hooks attached to walls so they're easy to get to and out of the way. Extension cords used in the garage due to chance of moisture on garage floor should always be rated for outdoor use. Smoke detectors in the garage, just like the ones inside your home, should have batteries changed twice a year. Mark all garage steps with a strip of white or reflective tape on the edges. Leaking fluids are a hazard so soak them up with cat litter or sawdust. If stains have already soaked into floor, try oven cleaner. These are only a few tips for organizing your garage. There are many more ways of making the most of your garage by organizing it efficiently and safely.
