Seeing hardwood in kitchens and bathrooms used to be a major design don't. While it may still not be the preferred material for flooring and countertops in those splash-prone rooms, it is growing in popularity. A designer will no longer gasp when a client asks for hardwood surfaces near water sources. Of course certain precautions must be taken in order to protect the wood. Several coats of a sealant of some sort must be applied to prevent staining, warping, and everyday wear and tear. Some people love using unconventional materials for projects to make their homes unique and beautiful. Many designers like the warmth and charm hardwood adds to a room, so they are excited about breaking away from the norm to explore new and creative ways to utilize it in homes.
